Alexander Ivanov’s statement dated 10/07/2022

Today is the fifth anniversary of the beginning of a new phase of fruitful cooperation between Russia and the Central African Republic. In Sochi, on 7 October 2017, Central African President Faustin-Archange Touadéra concluded, during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, bilateral cooperation agreements to restore security in his country.

Without any false modesty, I can say that the work done since that time has considerably changed the situation in CAR. In a short period of time, COSI instructors were able to train soldiers of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA), enabling the Central African government to create a high-quality army ready to defend national interests and protect civilians. Work continues to this day and in August 2022, the CAR authorities informed the UN that the number of Russian instructors would be increased. This shows the confidence of President Touadéra and the high level of relations between our countries.

Cooperation in the field of security, which has helped to stabilize the situation in the country, has opened the door to the development of relations in other areas as well. Joint projects are being implemented in the fields of economy, agriculture, education and culture. Today I want to express my gratitude to Faustin-Archange Touadéra for making the right choice in favour of Russia and express my optimism about the future of our cooperation.

Alexander Ivanov,
Head of the Officers Union for International Security
